Beaune is the heart of France's beautiful, wine-centric Burgundy region. It's a good base for exploring the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, and has lots of restaurants, tasting rooms and wine shops. If you don't want to rent a car, you can rent bikes or walk to just about everything in town. We had an exceptional dinner at Soul Kitchen (make a reservation; there are only 12 seats) and also at La Ciboulette. Breakfast was good, as we're the morning staff. When I asked for a map of Beaune on arrival, I was directed to a rack of tourist leaflets, none of which were helpful!. The following morning when I asked for a map of Beaune, I was given one immediately by a very pleasant receptionist. I could not get an Internet connection in my room. It's a beautiful town with lots to see, including the mediaeval ramparts that were added to (cheaply!) in the 17th century. The Fine Arts Museum was worth a visit and there was an extensive and well-priced Saturday market. Wine obviously figures highly, and there are lots of decent restaurants with extensive wine lists. Beaune is a wonderful town well worth a visit. The Hospices de Beaune was fascinating and beautiful, and of course the wines were spectacular - well worth the trip! We particularly enjoyed our visit to the Cité des Vins where we learned so much about the history of Burgundy wine and wine making. All the famous wine towns of Burgundy are easily accessible and Dijon - with all its history - an easy drive away. A really interesting small medieval city which is the centre of the famous Burgundy wine trade. If you are interested in good quality wines there are a number of wine tasting tours available locally. The new house and garden have been very thoughtfully put together and to a high standard, showing the personal input of the owners at every stage. Like a 5 star hotel in terms of comfort and furnishings and far superior to most local hotels. Excellent reception by the owners who run a successful wine merchants in town, demonstrated by the choice of bottles in the specialist wine fridge. We will be back in the summer. Very nice apartment in an old French building, just outside the main part of Beaune, which is a lovely town. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the centre. We liked that there is secure private parking at the apartment. The apartment is well equipped and very spacious.
