The old town is small and quaint and is located along the river Saone. Old Town is easily walkable with the main area being about 10 x 12 city blocks in width with an additional newer and larger portion of town immediately to the south. It has nice historical charm and is centrally located between Paris, Geneva and Lyon. Chalon is a delightful town, less well known than many other towns in Burgundy, but very lively. There is a great market, many fine restaurants and everything is easily reachable on foot. Chalon sur Saone is a beautiful medieval town with an enormous amount of cultural and historical sites to visit and experience. It is a very easy town to walk around being very flat, has a great supply and variety of restaurants and is an ideal location for cycling being at the centre of a number of sealed, off road cycle paths. The town is also well suited to train travel being on a main line leading to a number of other popular destinations such as Dijon, Beaune and Lyon.Guest review byphilipAustralia - 10.0

Chalon sur Saone is a lovely French town, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants. It's on the river and must be lovely in Summer (we visited in January). The Neptune next to the Kyriad is a great restaurant too if you like genuine French food from the 1970's.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom

It is superbly located within walking distance of the cathedral square where there are great bars and restaurants. We found it fairly easy to find parking close by.
