Interesting town with cultural heritage. I was just passing through en route from Italy to London but it is a perfect stopover for one night. Unfortunately I was there on a Monday, when some attractions eg the castle are closed but I did visit the cathedral. I lived in Chambery for a year 20 years ago. It is the ideal blend of bigger town conveniences and smaller town authenticity. At first drive or walk through, you might think “pass”. A real find - not very touristy. Very friendly. Great old town with lots of restaurants. Excellent street market (Saturday). Brilliant base to explore the two parks , Chartreuse and Massif de Bauges. The town is wonderful.
The town is wonderful. Old stonehouses and also palaces and great administrative old buildings in baroque and classical styles. Surrounding mountains add to the views. Sadly you could see quite a lot drug users and homeless and unemployed people.Guest review byAndreas

The rooms are period-decorated, very comfortable and with all your favourite extras - Nespresso machine, good toiletries and plenty of hangers (not usual in many French hotels!). The main chateau has the larger rooms. Set above the city of Chambery, the views are spectacular and it is very quiet. There is a lovely swimming pool and walks through the extensive grounds is a real pleasure after a long day in the car. Breakfast was outstanding, really French and with fresh juice, warm bread, different sorts of cheese and marmalade, honey, ham, croissants and coffee/tea.
