Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed. We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings.
We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation. For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good.... Really quirky entrance, really generous size and really well furnished (everything you need without too much clutter). A comfortable nights sleep, super comfy lounge and modern kitchen. We loved waking up on Saturday morning with the smell of pastries and the gentle buzz from the market hall right opposite the flat.
