As an art historian, I found it absolutely mesmerizing to be in the vicinity of the abbey of St. Foy. The tympanum sculptures, along with the monk's guided tour of them, the tribune tour every night, the light show projection on the tympanum at night were all great. Seeing the reliquary of St. Foy, and Charlemagne reliquary was wonderful too. I spent two entire days exploring the abbey and another wandering the streets of town (up and down hill hiking). Conques is a fantastic mediaeval village.
Conques is a fantastic mediaeval village. Very easy to spend a couple of days wandering around the streets. The church is a wonder. Auberge St. Jaques is very central with a restaurant and a bar. You do need to be able to negotiate the stairs, though.Guest review byray
