Paris by the Sea
Le Touquet combines the glamour of Paris with the tranquillity of the Opal Coast. Created by the founder of ‘Le Figaro’ newspaper, this exclusive holiday resort soon became a popular retreat for rich residents of the French capital, hence the suffix: Paris-Plage.
The town’s wide sands begin at the mouth of the Canche River and are lined with a promenade and colourful beach huts. Further south the promenade fades into sand dunes, overlooked by a golf course.
Other pursuits include a racecourse and a ritzy casino which was supposedly the inspiration for the one frequented by James Bond in ‘Casino Royale’. Ian Fleming did stay here, as did other famous authors including HG Wells and Sir Noël Coward, and other famous faces have graced the halls of Westminster Hôtel, a luxury Art Deco property available on Booking.com.
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage also has B&Bs and apartments dotted around its small town centre. Some are on the Rue St Jean shopping street and the perpendicular Rue de Metz, which has a semi-circular market square.
One of the town’s larger events is the Enduropale motorbike and quad bike race across the sands, and many competitors arrive via Le Touquet Airport. More family-friendly entertainment is the Aqualud waterpark, complete with slides and swimming pools.

We were there to play golf so it was perfect for that as there are 3 courses a practice green and driving range all in one area, every where was really well maintained. Le Touqet was lovely for a short visit unless you have children who can use the superb beach. Lots of lovely restaurants and would particularly recommend a seafood one called Perard. On the beach, excellent location. Restaurant on site but other restaurants of better quality are not too far away in the main towm, about 1 mile away. Pool and spa very good, my room was ok, but did not have a balcony, you need a balcony I would suggest to get the best out of your stay. This seemed a bit odd. Room was lovely though - comfy bed and pillows. Good sized bathroom with shower. Everything is all very new as the hotel only opened a few months ago. Good for a family of four (comfortable double bed and two bunks for kids). Our reason for choice was free car parking and the swimming pool.
