We went mainly for the La Bonnotte potato festival, which was good fun, and the potatoes are indeed delicious. But as the island is almost completely flat (fabulous for cycling) we hadn't expected a beautiful coastline and beaches. And although it was beautiful weather the beaches were almost deserted. Being selfish, I do not want to recommend Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile to others! The locals were unusually welcoming (a change from the South), the views around the island were panoramic and the food and drink left nothing to be desired. The island was free of litter and the pride which the locals take in it was obvious. It felt very secure. With a large dog a car was necessary, otherwise, everyone appeared to swap their cars for bicycles which were in plentiful supply on their arrival. The stay at this hotel was all we expected and more, the room was spacious and clean with all the amenities that we have come to expect, we had clean towels after the first day, unheard of in some. The staff were extremely helpful in every way possible and the food was absolutely gorgeous, the new chef was a master of his craft. The swimming pool was at a perfect temperature and spotlessly clean with great changing facilities. All in all we loved our stay at the Hotel St Paul and we will be returning soon.
