I drove down from the Marne valley and this was as far as I wanted to drive in one day! Orange is a delightful little town with Roman theatre the main attraction, but I used it as a base to visit Mont Ventoux (Tom Simpson memorial), Avignon, Arles, Camargue and Pont du Gard - all easily reached by car. Quieter than the main Provence towns but with nice restaurants and cafes so was very happy with it as a base for 3 days. Train into Avignon takes only 15 minutes (don’t bother w car!) and a 15-20 minute drive gets you to several of the best wine production towns in France w many tasting options. A small compact tourist area which is easily visited in one day. A good centre to operate from to visit Avignon, the Gorges and the vinyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. The Roman theatre is a wonderful place to enjoy a concert... but take a cushion if sitting on the concrete benches... and if necessary waterproofs. The charge for entry to the theatre and museum is excessive as there is very litle to see other than the wall of the stage.Guest review byJimFrance - 10.0

Parking was quite difficult in Orange and you need to pay in the centre. The surrounding areas are absolutely stunning and well worth visiting especially the Gorge de la Nesque, Gorge du Verdun and of course the drive up to Mount Ventoux. The wine region is one of our favourites and there are many fantastic villages to see such as Gordes, Rousillon and L'isle sur la Sorgue (arrive early to find good parking)Guest review byJaniceFrance - 10.0

After being down on the busy Cote d'Azur it was a welcome and peaceful respite. The old town is lovely and there are many cafes and restaurants to enjoy. Great peaceful, happening town.
Great peaceful, happening town. Nice size for a short visit as you can walk the major parts of the old town historic areas within an hour or less! Cute boutiques, jewelry, clothing, swimwear stores. Mostly independent shops. Saw lots of touring cyclists so the flat landscape is a big bonus for them. The Roman influence is everywhere: working amphitheatre, arc de triumph, ruins, etc. Recommend touring the amphitheatre and then going across the street to the museum. Lovely town squares with sycamore/plane trees to block out the sun. Lots of restaurant choices. Place dés herbes has a tea shop: lovely to sit outside an have a cuppa tea or coffee.
