We arrived tired after a long drive to look out on the beautiful view from the road (and at one point a view-loving horse who just stood there and wouldn't move for the car). A little drive from the main drag but not too far. We were welcomed by Guillaume who showed us into Le Fromagerie - we could see it was beautifully clean and had everything we needed, including a few little extras (like toilet roll). Very quiet at night and very dark. Not far from Saint Marie Aux Mines for your shopping needs and also the mountain roads. We couldn't fault it.

We were very pleasantly surprised to find that we had both a bedroom and a sitting area. We were also surprised to find that we had breakfast, as the listing seemed to suggest that it was room only. That was particularly useful, as eating places in the town were to put it kindly, disappointing. Isabelle and Michel were excellent hosts.

Amazing breakfast and restaurant meals mainly prepared from local quality products. The room and bathroom were well appointed with quality fittings and toilet products. The view from the room was pretty spectacular and there was little noise.

The rooms are modern and well equiped. There was a small waterboiler as well as coffee and tea, water etc. Everything you need and more. In the evening you can enjoy the small garden lounge outside in the last sun. My motorcycle was safely locked behind a gate. The hills are full of grashoppers that quietly sound day and night. There are a few local restaurants for which you need to take your wheels down to the village. In fact you can reserve a „surprise“ diner I learned. I slept well :-). The breakfast was very complete and the hostess was happy to provide for any needs; Just ask! :-)

    Nice little town with a Super U supermarket in town and Intermarche just outside. Market on Saturday morning and lots of shops and cafes (although not a lot was open - may be because we went late in the season.

    Long bumpy single lane farm track to reach property. Accommodation is a farm situated on mountainside with nice views, but rooms are in need of upgrading as furnishings are rather tired. Hosts very welcoming. Most food is produced & processed on the farm. Being a farm - there are lots & lots of flies everywhere.

    The town looked a bit "tired" and the hotel itself was a bit elderly and rambling. To have a rustic feel in the restaurant is acceptable but the room needed a sweep or hoovering. The owner, despite me asking in French for her to speak slowly, refused to do so. Although we ate in the restaurant I didn't understand what two dishes we had ordered until they arrived and even then only one of them. There was no menu !

    The gîte is in a pretty, forested, location only 2kms from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. It is beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you need, including a bottle of bubbly, some bread, charcuterie and homemade pickles on arrival. There were culinary surprises left on our doorstep too - croissants and a baguette one day and tarte aux pommes on others.
