Sauternes is a very pretty village but also a very small one-horse town. we arrived on a Monday and all the restaurants were shut and the 1 tapas bar that is open doesn't allow for dogs (we chose this because there was a review from someone who was driving from the Uk to Spain, the same as us, and had a dog and they recommended this bar, however I think the policy has changed since then. Our hosts weren't very hospitable and sent us to Langon telling us there was a lot open there, however, there was only 1 bar serving terrible food. Sauternes is a jewel and at the same time a miracle – a sleepy tiny town among vineyard-covered sweeping hills of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine doesn't seem to have anything to offer, not even a supermarket.
