I was attending the Choralies Music festival which comes around every three years. Vaison-la-Romaine is a lovely old town full of historic interest. All the concerts I attended were in the stunning Roman Amphitheatre. There is a very impressive Market on Tuesday which is not to be missed. There are lots of good restaurants and cafes. Everything you want to see is within walking distance, once you have parked the car. The city is very pretty and historic.
The city is very pretty and historic. It is a great place if you wish to tour the wineries in the area. There are plenty of good restaurants. We were with a large group staying in a variety of homes. After the impressive remains from the Roman empire, do not forget to fully explore the OLD CITY, the other side of (and above) the river. This is one of the most charming place I have ever seen. Many beautiful houses of 17 and 18 century. Each one has a garden. And the most extraordinary church - Ste Marie de l'Assomption - in the process of restauration, with vitrals offered by Giannada (Martigny, CH). Each lateral chapel of this very special cathedral is a marvel. The old wooden structures display an incredible range of shapes and colours. A very nice and calm place, a bit hidden in the hills of Villedieu. Totally calm and therefore ideal for a relaxing stay. Cosy room, equipped with love. Nice breakfast with tea, coffee, orange juice and handmade jam from fresh fruits. We also loved to have Anne‘s cats around which made the atmosphere even more likable.
