Gallo Roman Museum is terrific. Other Roman sites were closed. Ancient theatre being made into a modern facility. Cathedral was very large and old but interesting. Lots of bars and restaurants. If you are travelling south in the holiday season, staying overnight in Vienne means you have passed the heavy traffic in and around Lyon. Continue your journey south early morning and be ahead of the traffic jams south of Lyon. Vienne itself is a characterful beautiful city. Arrive late afternoon (friday if possible)and enjoy an apperitive with the locals on the many terraces, there are plenty of good restaurants too.Guest review byPeterBelgium - 10.0
A gorgeous town steeped in ancient history and culture.
A gorgeous town steeped in ancient history and culture. We went specifically to attend the JazzAVienne concert, to see Caravan Palace perform, and let me just say the experience was sublime. The ancient Roman Amphitheatre/temple pulsated to the rhythm of thousands of people dancing, singing and living in the moment. Vienne is a wonderful town. Not too big but much to see.
Vienne is a wonderful town. Not too big but much to see. Easy walking to the sites. For a small town person, it is easier to cope with than a big city. The property is located in the middle of the old town and close to the train station and the public car parking. The flat is very clean and its equipment functional. You get the feeling how it is to live in a medival town - albeit with WC, shower, electricity and all other amenities of modern civilisation. Don't forget to visit the famous cathedral nearby.
