The Chateaux is the only attraction in Villandry and must be one of the best in France. (Largely due to the fact that it had been in private hands for years and restored). The town is really a stopping point for cyclist and bus tours galore so must get very busy in the summer as the rainy Sunday had a full car park and a dozen buses. Villandry is a beautiful village with a wonderful chateau. We have visited here three times now in different seasons and the chateau - especially it's garden - is always magnificent. The Chateau was fabulous, the gardens, well, you can understand why they have 10 full-time gardeners. The grounds are more impressive than Chenonceau. The Villandry chateau is wonderful and the gardens are exceptional. Allow plenty of time to see the chateau and gardens. We ate at our hotel - Haut Lys - which was superb and walking distance up the road. Parking provided. A short walk to local amenities. Very clean, comfy bed and settee, and lovely bathroom with his and hers stone sinks. Plenty of appliances for coffee making, cooking etc and even a washing machine. A view of Chateau Villandry from the bedroom was a bonus. Parking was good, secure and just opposite. And right next to the Chateau de Villandry. We left the car in the hotel car park as it was more in the shade, and less dusty. Eric has created a dream garden over 30 years with lots of big trees, lawns, an orchard, potager and formal beds. It is stunning.
