We visited out of season so it was quiet, not a great selection of eateries in the evenings, although the pubs that were serving had great food. Local Spar didn't sell any alcoholic drinks so you need to go further afield for this. Nice location for touring the rest of the area as well, easy access to the Giants Causeway and other well known places. I was brought up in Ballycastle so I admit to being completely biased! Ballycastle is a pleasant small town set between the mountain (Knocklayde) and the sea, with views to Rathlin island and Scotland's Argyll peninsula on a clear day. There are excellent sporting facilities, including a golf course, lawn tennis courts and a bowling green. Water sports are popular as is rock climbing (on Fair Head). Locals have developed an interesting heritage trail showing the history and development of the town. There are a range of cafes and restaurants, many serving locally-caught seafood or local produce. A couple of bars on the seafront have beer gardens at the rear, with occasional music gigs. Parts of Ballycastle are steep, which could be an issue for visitors with mobility problems. Ballycastle is also a great hub for exploring the Causeway Coast, including the Giant's Causeway itself, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and less well known locations such as Murlough Bay and Cushendun.Guest review byBUnited Kingdom
