    Great location if you plan to visit Barnard Castle.

    Great location if you plan to visit Barnard Castle. It is a lovely market town, the market is on Wednesday. Parking is an issue so we parked at the Bowes Museum car park which is free and walked into the town. Lots of good cafe's and some interesting shopping. The location also gives the chance to visit Raby Castle which is only a short drive away and we rate highly.

    Barnard Castle is set high up on the Pennines, surrounded by wild and beautiful moorland. The town itself is warm and friendly with a good choice of eating places. For those who like history, the ruined castle is always worth seeing; the Bowes Museum, built as a huge french chateau takes a day to look around properly. There is a street market on Wednesdays and lots of artisan shops to enjoy for the rest of the week. The river Tees which flows through Barnard Castle is very beautiful and photogenic.

    Barnard Castle town was a nice place to go for a day trip.

    Barnard Castle town was a nice place to go for a day trip. lots of cafes and antique type places. We went to do a couple of cycling routes, one of them being the Tees valley railway which was really enjoyable, lots of wild flowers and butterflies and the scenery was stunning. Only thing i would point out is that a lot of the businesses in the surrounding small towns and villages shut on a Tuesday. Never been to this part of the country and will definitely be back.

    A lovely town with plenty of independent shops and cafes, so much to do and see nearby. Even just a stroll along the river makes for a pleasant afternoon. I was there to visit family so did not do any of the attractions but it is a good base to visit either the east coast or the Lake district and many of the attractions further afield

    Picturesque market town with good choice of shops, cafes and restaurants. If you like Indian food, we recommend the Bengal Merchant Indian restaurant. We also enjoyed the Moments and Rise cafes. There is also a Morrisons supermarket and a Lidl. There are local walks/public footpaths and the town is close to many nice places to visit e.g. High Force waterfall, Hamsterley Forest, Raby Castle and some reservoir walks

    Both Barnard Castle and the Bowes Museum in Bowes are well worth a visit and there is so much to see in this beautiful part of the world. The Bowes Museum is an amazing collection of fine art, porcelain, textiles, furniture and has an excellent cafe and impressive grounds.

    Beautifully recently refurbished hotel. It was immaculate and yet, in keeping with the age of the building. The staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. The room was very clean and smelled brand new. The location of the hotel is in the centre of Barnard Castle, so everything is within easy walking distance. The breakfast was superb. A great choice of continental and cooked breakfast choices, with table service. Free parking is always a bonus. Good value for money.
