Has a good range of shops and some reasonably priced long-stay parking. Interesting local museum by the river is well worth a visit. Many other seaside villages and other local towns easily reached from this area, including RHS Rosehall Gardens and a couple of NT properties worth a visit. We had a full week at The Spinney, Barnstable and did a different thing each day. Some very good local places to have dinner eg the Williams Arms and Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton. As with many seaside towns in the UK, Barnstaple has seen better days. The high street is in decline, though there are some nice restaurants, Lush been one we visited twice with great sea food dishes. Barnstaple is a lovely town with plenty of places of interest, shops, bars, and restaurants. We had an evening meal at Clinton & Glass house would highly recommend. The food was excellent. Rock park was a fabulous place for walking our beloved dog Toby. Barnstaple is a good base to stay to explore North Devon. Town felt unloved and centre looked unattractive to me. Area round hotel and park was nicely kept and attractive. We then spoke to Sandra on reception about this later on and she offered us a new room in the main hotel, it was really lovely and thanks again to her. Overall, the hotel is very nice & modern, the staff are very friendly and efficient and it's nicely situated in the town and not far from the town centre.
