Beside the Seaside, Beside the Sea

A favoured holiday spot since the Victorian era, Blackpool is a traditional English seaside town. Amusement arcades and crazy golf courses line the promenade and dotted between them are plenty of places to pick up fresh fish ‘n’ chips and Blackpool rock.

On the 5-mile sandy beach, children can enjoy Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides. Old-fashioned entertainment at its best. At the other end of the scale is the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a fairground complex comprising a variety of rides, including The Big One - once the world’s tallest and steepest rollercoaster. They actually had to get permission from nearby Blackpool Airport to erect it!

More seaside pursuits are on the town’s 3 piers, one of which is Grade II listed. However, the most recognisable landmark is the Blackpool Tower which houses a circus, 4D cinema and a world-renowned ballroom, to name a few. Modelled on the Eiffel Tower, it is spectacularly lit during the annual Blackpool Illuminations, when the whole town is bathed in bright lights. The trams plying the prom are also lit. Look out for the one shaped like a ship.

A popular stag and hen do destination, Blackpool offers accommodation ranging from North Shore hotels to South Shore B&Bs - see Booking.com for the best choice.

Lots of entertainment for little ones and for adults too, the beach was clean and lots of places to eat so you’d never have to stand a wait around, I did like the smaller pubs on the back streets where the karaoke bars was packed and full of friendly people. Blackpool is a really nice family place.

    Was there for a week 13th - 19th Sept.

Was there for a week 13th - 19th Sept. No illuminations during the week was a bit disappointing as this is why we were there. Our hotel The Ruskin was brilliant and would highly recommend. We were there during a gale at the start and the start of the firework competition had to be cancelled. Blackpool has always been a favourite of mine but although there are a lot of new hotels etc., from the centre pier to the south pier there really isn't anything except the pleasure beach which was also closed during the week but didn't bother us as we are in our 60s. The market is missed. High tea in the tower was my highlight of the week.

I used to visit Blackpool lots during my younger years and also took my older children every year when they were younger until covid. I have been 3 times since covid and feel it's very run down and neglected despite all income there getting from businesses and lights etc. I feel prices have gone way over budget and will not be visiting in the future.

Always plenty to do in Blackpool, shows ,pubs and just taking in all the sights. The Pleasure Beach is a big attraction. Lots of restaurants and smaller fish & chip shops. Everything for everyone. The Illuminations are Spectacular.

During my stay i took the tram to Bispham and walked back to the pleasure beach viewing the illuminations. Also visited the zoo which was good. Finally the tower ballroom was worth seeing. My overall experience of Blackpool itself was that it is very tired and run down with lots of boarded up properties and rubbish everywhere.

The Imperial Hotel restored my faith in Blackpool Hotels.

The Imperial Hotel restored my faith in Blackpool Hotels. Alas, so many untidy/run-down former shops & stalls scattered intermittently along the promenade. However, Blackpool is Blackpool & it does what it says on the tin.

These guys are brilliant for a stay in Blackpool. 4 of us stayed end of Jan for an event North Pier way. Fiver in a taxi to reach from Hotel (My Fault for not checking distance before booking). But don't take this away from the Hotel. Perfect hosts, Friendly, Clean and Tidy rooms. Early check in Honestly couldn't ask for more and when we inevitably return I will be booking in with the guys again. Price cheap as the Blackpool chips aswell Thanks Joe

The landlady was lovely, the hotel was amazing, there were massive rooms, comfy beds very clean! We also had a sea view room! we have stopped at a few hotels as we are regular visitors to blackpool, but this topped them all. It was the best we have stayed at in the 10 years we as a family have been visiting! Book, you will not be disappointed it was exceptional. Thank you!

Best Hotel I've stayed in at Blackpool, me and my family go at least twice a year so weve stayed in quite a few. Hotel was lovely and clean, breakfast was lovely and staff were also very kind and welcoming. 100% recommend this hotel. I'll definitely be using it again.

Great property with parking close by, a little walk into central Blackpool but there’s a Tram stop literally 2 minutes away. Hotel clean and everything you needed was provided. We must say the hosts were great and the breakfast was fantastic.
