Blyth is a small town with a few recognisable shops, but its biggest draw is its excellent public transport connections. The bus station is right in the centre of the town and has buses to places like Newcastle, Cramlington, Ashington and Morpeth, giving you more options for shopping and tourism. The new train station (Bebside) will be open in the near future, but there's another already in use at Newsham (just a tad south of Blyth) connecting Ashington with Newcastle Central Station.

Blyth is a bit of a mixture.

Blyth is a bit of a mixture. The beach itself is awesome and not at all crowded even in August. It is perhaps overshadowed by the also lovely Whitley Bay a couple of miles south which is much more of a seaside resort. The water is really clear and as far as I could tell from some quick searches was very clean too. Apparently there is a bit of a winter surf scene there, though swimming in August is about my limit! There are a couple of nice places to eat just by the beach. The town itself is run down, but beautifully paved. It's clearly had a lot of investment, possibly led by someone who who believed that the way to solve all Blyth's problems was to give it a brand new floor and a large new building that is closed on Tuesdays (I think it's a Cinema and arts venue). Judging by the two shoplifting attempts we witnessed in the time it took to drink a coffee, this has not done much to alleviate sausage roll related crime. A couple of hours in the town center was enough, though I do highly recommend Tasha's Retro Hideaway, especially for breakfast. If you have a car and want to explore the Northumbrian coast Blyth makes a great, budget-friendly base with a lovely beach to relax on for those well-needed rest days. Newcastle is easily accessible by bus and there are some lovely nearby beaches too.

The room was great, very clean, the bed comfortable.

The room was great, very clean, the bed comfortable. Breakfast was not good. Porridge that you add water to, fruit grain bar, bun and apple. There are no staff on site. The car park is on a first come first serve basis but is secure. I think it would be better advertised as room only as the breakfast is misleading. Having read other reviews since it appears that other people thought so too.

Blyth is not a tourist destination, it's very run down. However, the hotel is in a good location as a base if you want to explore the Northumberland coast. The beaches are fabulous, Long stretches of sand and dunes. Whitley Bay and Tynemouth are beautiful places to visit.

Good base from which to see Northumberland.

Good base from which to see Northumberland. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Just across from the bandstand and beach, could walk from the door. So many lovely places to visit - Amble, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Druridge Bay, Farne Islands etc. Will definitely return to see more.

We were just staying overnight travelling back from Scotland to Yorkshire. For that it was excellent. But Blyth itself is not the most picturesque seaside resort. The evening meal we had in the Seahorse was very good and excellent value for money.
