From Brunel to Banksy!
Britain’s 4th most popular visitor destination, Bristol boasts Brunel’s magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the River Avon. More Brunel handiwork is in the harbour where his SS Great Britain steamship is moored. Pirate walks here detail the city’s underground naval history.
Further north in Clifton is the world’s oldest zoo outside a capital city. Other Bristol attractions include At-Bristol Museum and the Grade I-listed Corn Exchange with its 4 "nails" outside where money changed hands. Also worth a visit is St Nicholas Market, in a Georgian square home to several bars and a Slow Food Market on the 1st Sunday of every month. Other Bristol shopping options include shopping centres at Cabot Circus, and Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts.
As a student city, Bristol really comes to life after dark. The live music scene here is fantastic and has given way to several internationally known bands, but for something more alternative head to Eastside.
Another option for alternative-seekers is the work of hometown street artists Banksy. Just like Booking.com’s Bristol accommodation, his work is spread throughout this fabulous city.
This Gateway to the West Country is served by Bristol Airport and Temple Meads train station. The old Bristol to Bath railway line is now a cycle route and makes a great day trip.

A wonderful city full of hidden treasures. We went to Clifton to walk along the Suspension Bridge and meandered into the Centre and Harbourside via the museum and Park Street then to the famous Llandoger Trow. I booked three rooms for a family wedding weekend at another venue. One of the rooms was dirty bins not emptied sheets not changed water pouring through the tiles in the shower. The room was unusable and should not have been booked for use. The other two rooms were satisfactory and the staff were very good. But I have had £300 taken out of my bank account for no apparent reason. I cannot get hold of the hotel either by telephone or email to make a complaint and ask for my money to be returned to my bank account. I am so frustrated and annoyed That there is no verbal way I can get in contact with them. I would like my £300 to be paid back into my account as soon as possible. Excellent food great places to visit loved the heritage harbour area and the Arnolfini Gallery. We were there for the women’s rugby transport back from the game to the city was poor. The Clifton Bristol suspension bridge and the Avon gorge is amazing to visit. We also did the cave. I recommend you to watch your head in the tight space. The Bristol Cathedral was beautiful. Bristol is a very vibrant city, perfect if you are a foodie as there are a lot of really good places to eat. If you're lucky with the weather it's great to sit on the harbourside and enjoy a drink. The 'Great Western' ship (built by Brunel) was interesting). The 'Concorde Museum' was great! The last Concorde that flew.! I went over to the coast to Portishead and was amazed by the 10 meter tidal range. The beds are comfortable and there is a large tv in the rooms. The hotel also has plenty of parking spaces and we were able to get a space near the entrance of the hotel with a cost of £6 for the night. It was a big, comfortable room, just perfect for a family of four. We liked as well the fact that it was just 6-7 mins walk from Bristol Temple meads station. Very near to the hotel, just accross the road, there was a bus station, but as we prefer to walk, the city centre was accessible in just 10-15 mins walk, perhaps less if you do not have small children. The staff are super pleasant and when I realised I’d forgotten my toothbrush the gave me one.
