Buckfastleigh is the perfect place from which to explore the Devon coast and the Dartmoor National Park. Buckfast Abbey is a delight to visit, there is a steam railway to Tavistock and the butterfly and otter centre near the station is well worth a visit. Great location for exploring the area. Buckfast Abbey was amazing, free to park and free entry (well worth a visit). The butterfly farm and otter sanctuary was good, although a little over priced. I have friends there. An excellent new wine bar with very friendly and hospitable staff. They went out of their way to accommodate us and find suitable dishes for me to avoid my chilli allergy. Would have been nice if the lights in the room were a bit brighter & there was some control over the heating. It was just little on the cold side for us in November. Very quiet and tranquil area, right next door to Buckfast Abbey. Disabled room was spacious and the wet-room well equipped. The local area was too hilly for the wheelchair, however, the hotel was very wheelchair friendly and a good base. Staff were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
