Bungay is a delightful small town that perfectly blends history, charm, and character. What struck me most was the wonderful selection of unique and artisan shops—each one offering something a little different, from handmade crafts and local produce to antiques and specialty items. It’s the kind of place where you can happily wander the streets, discovering hidden gems around every corner. The town itself feels peaceful and welcoming, with a slower pace that makes it easy to relax and simply enjoy the surroundings. Its historic buildings, traditional pubs, and independent cafés give Bungay a distinctive personality that you don’t often find in larger towns. Whether you’re looking to browse, shop, or simply soak up the atmosphere, Bungay has a way of making you feel at home. In short, Bungay is a truly charming market town, rich in character and individuality—a perfect spot for those who appreciate local culture, history, and the joy of discovering something a little out of the ordinary.

It is a small historic town with an unspoilt centre with several fine houses as well as historic churches and a ruined castle. Our B&B host was able to recomend a restaurant with above average food.

Bungay is a lovely little town and has lots of character. One of the nicest delicatessens can be found in Bunday: Earsham Street Delicatessen. I picked up some great products there for Christmas and a few gifts for friends too.

My favourite places were the cafe attached to the castle, the fruit shop and florist across the road from The Castle Inn and the friendliness of the locals. We dined at The Fleece Restaurant. It was very easy to find our way around Bungay but we travelled far and wide during our short stay.

The hotel is well located, in a pretty town full of independent shops. Coast is reachable and beaches in this area are great, there are parks and nature reserves nearby. We walked around the town peering into shop windows and taking photographs of the brightly coloured houses.

Good location in pleasant Town of Bungay. Loft has everything that we needed, it was good to have a choice of books. Bed was comfortable and shower good. Nice position from which we could see the castle and convenient for shops and restaurants, we had a good meal at the Fleece which is very close. The owner went to some trouble to offer us ideas and was helpful. Good advice to leave a note in the car to say where we were staying.

Set in the beautiful town centre of Bungay, we were able to stroll along for breakfast pastries and coffee and enjoy the local pubs and restaurants in the evening (with the fantastic Fiano restaurant being underneath us!). The bay window overlooks the town so you can enjoy the peace and quiet in the comfortable lounge while watching the world go by. The bed was extremely comfortable & the shower was great too.

My room at Earsham house was delightful, very clean, spacious and an extremely comfortable bed! Plenty of choice on the beverage tray of teas, coffee, hot chocolate and even a choice of oat milk plus biscuits. Very welcoming. Right in the heart of Bungay too. I shall come again!

Lovely "quirky" retreat that showed off the owners decorative style rather than just the usual bland "hotel style room". Hidden away but near the important things in life, town, places to see and restaurants! Owners suggested their favourite places to eat so we ate well!
