FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodation choices on Booking.com.

    The city is so interesting.

The city is so interesting. The Wren Library at Trinity College is well worth a visit. All the eateries are top class and offer super service. The Botanical Gardens were on the turn as it is autumn and I think a reduced entrance fee would be a nice gesture. It was nice to encounter different plant species like ground crocuses. Our second visit and we will be back for more!

Cambridge is a wonderful compact important world-class University city, with many and a wide variety of excellent museums, places to eat and so on. The colleges are mostly open during the day. The botanic garden is superb.

At just 30 mins. from Stansted it seemed a convenient place to visit before flying home. We could have stopped longer. There are numerous small but very interesting museums, many I hope to see on return visits. We did visit the Fitzwilliam museum, which features an art collection organized thematically rather than chronologically, and mixes up works by artists such as Constable, Turner, Degas, Monet, Canaletto and Dutch Masters. We also visited Anglesea Abbey, one of several NT properties in the area.

It is a vibrant town with hugely historic past and magnificent architecture. There are plenty of eateries ranging from cafe to fine dining. It can get very crowded with tourists both individuals and groups. Vehicle traffic can be slow. Be wary of electric scooters and bikes - they are in abundance, quiet and quite fast!

The Fitzwilliam Museum is amazing - and free.

The Fitzwilliam Museum is amazing - and free. From Ancient Egypt to Impressionists (Monet, Cezanne etc) and Pre-Raphaelites. Punt tour was fascinating giving “secret” views of the colleges and much better than expected. The Watermill was excellent spot by the river for lunch. The Eagle pub full of history (DNA discovery, RAF etc). All walkable if you wear comfortable shoes

A fascinating city with an obvious youthful vibe.

A fascinating city with an obvious youthful vibe. Easy to get around, good bus services and great selection of places to eat. Yim Wah Express was first class. The Hop-on bus and a punt on the River Cam are recommended, as is a visit to the Polar Museum. A visit to Duxford Air Museum by public transport requires a bit more effort but is more than worth it. We are 80-year olds and we were able to enjoy our visit to the full.

Great location, very easy to walk into Cambridge city centre from the hotel.. Rooms were very clean. Staff were absolutely lovely - very helpful and welcoming. They kindly stored our luggage after check out and leant my friend a phone charger which was much appreciated. We went on a brilliant walking tour and a group punting trip booked via Scudamores and had a delicious meal at La Mimosa. Highly recommend them all.

A lovely hotel - clean, comfortable with friendly staff. Very nice breakfast including gluten free foods. Small details were thought of - for example, having a toilet not too far from the breakfasting area, rather than having to go back to own room to use the facilities. Quite a distance from Cambridge city centre, but excellent for the railway station. Would definitely book an Ibis hotel again.

Hotel had very good facilities and staff were very helpful. The breakfast was lovely too and there was a great choice. Town was a bit of a trek but taxis are available but can be expensive. Local bus is the best, a short walk to the bus stop and takes about 15 mins. Very reasonable price aswell. We did enjoy our stay and Cambridge is a great place. We will definitely visit again.

The hotel was in a very good location, just a few minutes away from the city centre of Cambridge. Staff were lovely and they provided a great room to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday in a very nice way. Opportunity to use different facilities at no extra charge.

good practical little family run hotel. Staff were friendly & helpful. Close to Addenbrooks Hospital which was convenient for this trip. Have stayed here last year on a sightseeing trip to Cambridge city centre and equally convenient for that too.
