FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for universities dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Taking a flat bottomed punt in Cambridge is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodations choices on Booking.com.

At just 30 mins. from Stansted it seemed a convenient place to visit before flying home. We could have stopped longer. There are numerous small but very interesting museums, many I hope to see on return visits. We did visit the Fitzwilliam museum, which features an art collection organized thematically rather than chronologically, and mixes up works by artists such as Constable, Turner, Degas, Monet, Canaletto and Dutch Masters. We also visited Anglesea Abbey, one of several NT properties in the area.

It is a vibrant town with hugely historic past and magnificent architecture. There are plenty of eateries ranging from cafe to fine dining. It can get very crowded with tourists both individuals and groups. Vehicle traffic can be slow. Be wary of electric scooters and bikes - they are in abundance, quiet and quite fast!

The Fitzwilliam Museum is amazing - and free.

The Fitzwilliam Museum is amazing - and free. From Ancient Egypt to Impressionists (Monet, Cezanne etc) and Pre-Raphaelites. Punt tour was fascinating giving “secret” views of the colleges and much better than expected. The Watermill was excellent spot by the river for lunch. The Eagle pub full of history (DNA discovery, RAF etc). All walkable if you wear comfortable shoes

A fascinating city with an obvious youthful vibe.

A fascinating city with an obvious youthful vibe. Easy to get around, good bus services and great selection of places to eat. Yim Wah Express was first class. The Hop-on bus and a punt on the River Cam are recommended, as is a visit to the Polar Museum. A visit to Duxford Air Museum by public transport requires a bit more effort but is more than worth it. We are 80-year olds and we were able to enjoy our visit to the full.

A very busy place but it holds a certain buzz about it. Easy to get about and much to see. We used the Hop on Hop off bus which is always good way to see the town. We will return as there are things we would still like to see

    Room as expected. Great shower.

Room as expected. Great shower. Evening meal only "takeaway or fast food" style. Disappointed. Saved by the proximity of the Red Lion. Breakfast as expected. Need larger duvet on bed. Dining chairs need a good clean, very dusty on frames. Bench seating also needed cleaning. Good carparking. A useful hotel. Close to Duxford Imperial War Museum.

Room was excellent - lovely panoramic views of the Cambridge Meadows and spires. Lots of room, quality mattress and sheets - quiet and comfortable. Couldn't enjoy breakfast as jet lag took hold and we missed it - and when we did try the restaurant it was closed for 'deep cleaning'. However it did re-open a little later but again the ship had sailed by then and we went to a local pub of which there are many. It's a lovely hotel, boutique style, but we didn't really get to enjoy it for the one night. Great location though!

Our room was clean & comfortable. The hotel was close to Cambridge city centre & it was easy for us to walk down the road & catch the bus. We walked to the pub in the evening & it was all signposted from Rectory Farm, which was great - especially as it was dark when we went back

For a budget hotel, value is exceptional. Clean, comfortable and with parking (a challenge in Cambridge). Reception (Candice) bright, alert, articulate and on the ball.
