Chepstow is "picture-book town" with cobble stoned, narrow winding roads, lined by beautiful terraced houses, each front-door in different colour. Countless flower-pedestals, flowerpots and troughs everywhere in public spaces - are all overwhelming "charm-overdrive" for the senses. The amassing people of Chepstow are genuinely welcoming, with their broadest smiles from the heart. IT WAS LIKE BEING LOST IN A CHILDREN'S STORY BOOK. We kept singing `Balamory....' everywhere we went in Chepstow. Colin’s ice-cream shop serves LOVE & HAPPINESS with their ice-cream. Chepstow Castle, Museum, the Old Wye Bridge, The Riverside Pub - with live music bouncing off the rock-face of the cliff across the river, The Boat Inn with their lovely food, St Mary's Church with its beautiful architecture of the past - They all come to gather, to create a land of magic. I lived in the Chepstow area for over 30 years and was visiting having moved away 7 years ago. It has changed in those years mainly because of the Severn Bridge tolls being removed and people moving in from the cities close by. There are more bars and restaurants there now to meet the needs of the increased population but the town itself feels in need of some TLC. It's still a great location for visiting the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley areas though and you can easily get the train to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff so is great as a base for visiting other places.Guest review byanne phillipsUnited Kingdom - 8.0

An interesting place, a short walk to the castle with good parking facilities. Quite hilly for walking, a great italian restaurant about 100 yard walk, a busy pub across the road. The Castle was quite an experience in itself and we loved the free community museum down the street. Allow a couple of hours to see everything. If you walk halfway across the old bridge you can take a photo with one foot in Wales and the other in England. It’s just a really convenient and cozy place to stay. It was perfect for us getting out of 24hour transit to roll into the car park and straight into our room, which was new and clean. Having the pub/restaurant right across is also really handy. Breakfast was delicious, staff were lovely and accommodating. Just a stroll into Chepstow town centre.
