My late husband stayed in Cruden Bay before we met and we...
My late husband stayed in Cruden Bay before we met and we were married in Cruden Parish Church in August 1969. It certainly evoked a lot of memories for me. All happy ones. My sister and I ate in the hotel for our evening meal and breakfast. The Tuesday we wandered in the car to places remembered and as my sister had never spent time there it was an eye opener for her. Beautiful part of the country with lovely walks and stunning...
Beautiful part of the country with lovely walks and stunning views. Cruden Bay is a pretty fishing village with a soft sandy beach. Nearby Bullers o' Buchan, a collapsed sea cave, is well worth a visit although care must be taken on the narrow cliff paths. We saw kittiwakes, cormorants, razor bills, guillemots, eider ducks and even a few puffins to mention but a few of the nesting birds. The walk to Slains Castle along the river valley from the centre of Cruden Bay was very picturesque and the views of the castle are impressive, perched on the cliff top. Sadly, the lead on the roof was removed in 1925 and sold for £10,000 to avoid paying taxes, hence its present state of decay. From 1893-1910 Bram Stoker visited annually and Slains Castle is the inspiration for the setting for Count Dracula. A seal colony at nearby Newburgh is also well worth a visit.Guest review byYvonneUnited Kingdom
