Just back from a couple nights stay away for Hogmanay. We had a really lovely time away! Location is beautiful and quiet. Weather stayed great so we managed to get the fire going and watch the stars! Even got a wee aurora shot too! Was also nice to wake up on the frosty mornings and take in the view (: A little fireworks display both nights made an appearance to make it even more special! You have everything you need from washing up things, crockery and cutlery. With a couple of added luxuries of our own, we managed a traditional steak pie dinner on New Year’s Day and watched the darts on our tele 🙌🏻 Roslyn the owner is extremely nice and helpful and is always a message away for anything else you might need. Just before we left we got a wee visit from a couple of the horses that stay on site 🥰 Didn’t want to come home! 😭 5 stars

Again a perfect 10 for all the right reasons: 1 Communications with host Ann(ie) was clear and prompt to get us to the right place at the right time. 2 The Estate is clearly visible from the road, but not close to the road: nice and quiet. 3 Enough and good parking places on the premisses. 4 The estate does not look very big for the outside but surely is! It has been transformed from a former separate house for preparing for hunting, to a stylish modern villa, with a tea terrace in a huge tree behind the house. 5 Annie took great care in decorating each room and terrace - each room had its own - with great care for consistent style. She loves tigers and in pictures and statues the animals are omnipresent; not the real ones by the way. 6 The kitchen is enormous, yet cosy and beautiful, very clean and great for having breakfast. 7 The garden is well maintained. 8 The bathroom is private and immaculate with thick towels 9 Excellent bed, beautiful and comfortable linnens 10 Across the street - less than a minute away - is de the Burns-Wallace memorial: a pile of stones near the river, just a modest staircase away, easy accessible, with poetry on the pile. 'Worth the detour'! What stands out most is Annies hospitality. With a nice Scottish touch, she is full of stories, advice for day visits, and prepares and serves breakfast the way you wish. For the cereal lover, at least 10 varieties. We choose eggs and croissants with coffee (and tested several cereals). Nothing is a problem for her. She showed us around in her beautiful Estate of which she is really proud, for obvious reasons. This is what we wanted and got plenty of it.

Stunning experience, we loved everything from the start to the end. The bb is nestled jn a lovely rural area, with plenty of space to walk with your dog. Besides, it’s pet friendly and we even had the chance to have our breakfast together with our furry baby in the dining room. He was offered a sausage by the amazing owners of Crofthead. The room was spacious and spotless and the bed… oh, the bed: so comfy and we slept so well. Will be dreaming of it. The house smells good everywhere. And in the morning we had one of the most sumptuous breakfasts ever. Everything is fresh and homemade. My brioche with poached eggs and bacon was stupendous: fresh eggs were amazing. And then the jams, fresh fruit, cross buns , etc. Most of all we loved Nicola and Jerry: a fantastic couple of people we loved to chat with and had even some fun telling each other stories about our country. Can’t wait to come back soon. Thank you so much, Nicola and Gerry, for having made our holiday bellissima!!!

We are visiting the beautiful Dumfries House that King Charles renovated. Last time we came we could not enter as The King was in residence. However we met him on a pathway to the Queen Elizabeth garden and spoke to him for a few minutes. WE hope today we will be able to see the house.

We know the area well as my sister lives there. It is a great base to holiday from with Ayr quite close and beautiful countryside. Only 15 mins from the motorway to get back down South and Glasgow & Edinburgh are easily driven to. There is a railway station in Auchinleck with a good bus service from Cumnock. Ifyoudont mind using public transport the buses connect really well to the larger cities and are not too badly priced.

A friendly and welcoming community, and the town is well placed for sight seeing in south west Scotland. There are some excellent examples of places to visit, not least Dumfries House and gardens which are only a few miles outside Cumnock in the direction of Ayr. Another place I would recommend is Culzean Castle, which is on the Ayrshire coast of the Firth of Clyde, an easy drive from Cumnock.

Cumnock is centrally located and can travel to Ayr or Kilmarnock or to Glasgow and further north. There's not many shops but what is there is varied. The people make it what it is ,always ready to answer questions and lend a hand when needed.

The staff at the Dumfries Arms Hotel could not have been better, particularly Lorna on reception who went above and beyond to assist us with taxis to and from our evening in New Cumnock. Staff in the restaurant were also extremely pleasant and courteous. We had dinner, which was very tasty and promptly served, and reasonably priced. Breakfast was well presented, prompt and cooked perfectly. Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Central Cumnock location; traditional breakfast well served; Rory on front of house and waiting is very good. It's a run down former mining town on the road back, and the hotel is trying to cover various markets, including weddings, pub, travellers and tourists. The food is good up-market pub-level; burgers etc: but lively dining room very popular with locals.
