The main purpose of my trip was property viewing and...
The main purpose of my trip was property viewing and spending time with family but I did do a bit of touristy stuff. The grave of the artist George Romney is in the churchyard. The castle is only open in the afternoon of the first Saturday in the month so wasn’t open when I was there unfortunately. The lodge is very conveniently situated for Dalton. That is only a few minutes walk away. The town centre is only a few minutes walk away as well.Guest review byLynneUnited Kingdom - 6.0
Dalton is very small - not much there, but is a great base...
Dalton is very small - not much there, but is a great base for exploring. Does have a Co-op for supplies and a pharmacy. We went to the Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve which is lovely and very close with vast empty beaches and a Natterjack Toad reserve (we didn't see any!). Safari Park is also very close (about 10 mins away). Coniston, Ambleside and Windemere can be reached in less than an hour and it's about 40 mins to Beatrix Potter's House - which is lovely but very small, so will only take you about an hour to get round. (Do book - mainly for the parking - if you are going there as parking is very limited and entry to the house is limited as it's very small). I think there are lovely places to visit in Barrow, but we didn't have time. We did find an amazing pub - The Anglers Arms - just off the main dual carriageway (A590 I think) which I would definitely recommend. Small village with some independent shops .
Small village with some independent shops . Church bells rang out on Sunday morning which was nice .We didn’t spend time in Dalton looking round since we were heading to Ulverston to the Dickensian festival there. We did however pop to the pub next door but one to the rental cottage . Nice cosy traditional pub with friendly bar staff. Not a pretty place to stay, I’d have much preferred to be further into the lakes. Only one pub sold food out of four or five pubs.
