Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.
Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

We were on the road and stayed someplace different for 9 days between Ireland and Scotland. Edinburgh was the cleanest area vs. Glasglow. There were decent areas to visit within walking distance and lots to see within an hours drive in any direction. Out the 500 miles we drove on trip Glasgow had the most confusing street signs/names when using navigation system. None of the city names matched. Once we got on and off hwy 4 times before taking the right exit. As long as you are patient while driving and it was definitely easier to have my son help with navigating. Buildings in need of whitewash.
Buildings in need of whitewash. Gorgeous architecture but the drunkards in the streets and the lack of sanitation ( rubbish lying around ) brings the city down. There’s a feeling they could be great but can’t be bothered. People seem to lack ambition or direction. Super wealthy living there behind closed doors. Gorgeous indoor spaces, but only accessible to people with money. Take the city tour bus to gain a feel of the different areas, it’s a great way to get to the ‘must see’ places. The Kelvingrove museum is amazing with a brilliant organ recital at 1pm, I had lunch here then later on tea and cake - both very tasty. Transport museum worth a visit too. This is the second time we came to Glasgow.
