Anything you could need for the weekend was on the doorstep.

Anything you could need for the weekend was on the doorstep. If you love walking, I would recommend the walk to the Solway Coast, really peaceful. From Bojangles guest house you can walk to all amenities maximum 10 minutes. There are no Taxis, however we were offered a lift to Gretna Station by our Host. There are bus stops and regular buses into Carlisle. Carlisle has all the bigger brand shops. We ate out at The Solway Hotel. Very nice food.

We wanted to visit a friend in Moniaive & Gretna Green had the closest accommodation we could find. We saw none of the town as we spent our time with Adam Armstrong Tours touring the gorgeous border country and learning about the Armstrong clan. It is known for being a place where under age English couples in centuries past could more easily get married by the blacksmiths. And indeed weddings were going on. Our B&B host mentioned that the border country is not well-enough promoted. We found the countryside sublime, our fave part of our 3 week trip to very different areas in Scotland.

The only thing that I was frustrated about was the signage for the location! My satnav directed me off to Gretna village via A75. The post code is obviously similar to properties there as the village is very close. (I had to ring reception for guidance). There should be a Welcome Break sign prior to that junction as satnavs tend to be obeyed, especially for lone drivers of a certain age like me!

I attended for a wedding which was a lovely experience.

I attended for a wedding which was a lovely experience. Plenty of choice for overnight stays from hotels to B&B’s. There are restaurants to cafes to choose from for food. Plenty of parking. Choice of historical interests to explore at the Black Smiths or you can shop at the nearby designer outlet. Lovely countryside for walks.

The staff were very friendly and the hotel had all the facilities we expected and needed; plus pizza! The room was spacious and comfortable and even had an hairdryer and a fan, which was great! The location is ideal for a stop on a long journey to or from Scotland and the service station facilities are very handy too.

The Solway Lodge hotel was clean and tidy and is an ideal stopping over place prior to any trip to Scotland from the south. It is also close to the Gretna Inn which serves lovely food and the staff are extremely friendly. It is also close to the Caledonia Park Designer Outlet.
