Arriving after the shops had closed didn't present a very favourable first impression of the town but a whole host of coffee shops and small businesses opened up the next day. Haddington too was a disappointment.
Haddington too was a disappointment. A walk round the high street took less than a couple of hours. There were very few places to eat and after eating in the hotel on our first night (very restricted menu) and travelled to Gifford for dinner on the second evening. The owner is very nice and helpful. it´s very quiet. We found getting to Edinburgh by public transport easy: free parking at East Linton Train Station or Haddington Tesco. Take a train to Edinburgh Waverly (City Center), be there in 15 min. Alternative: take the bus X7 from Haddington, takes ca. 50 min.
