I think you can stay in much more upmarket places for the same or less money. It needs a deep clean and a proper chef at lunch time or a more basic menu so whoever is there for lunchtime can prepare it nicely. I love old pubs that are not part of a chain but they must keep up with cleanliness and standards in 2025. The Indian restaurant around the corner is absolutely amazing!! And if it wasn't for the terrible food served at lunch we could never have gone around the corner for dinner and found the hidden gem soho at Hampton.Guest review byJenAustralia - 10.0

Within a few miles to the NEC centre and airport. Check in was easy and a short walk across a garden patio area to the bar from our room. A good selection of drinks in the bar that was warm and inviting. A good pub menu to finish the day with nice staff. The full English that was included in the price was excellent, setting us up for the day ahead. The charming village was a great place to stay for the course I was on. The digs were within a few hundred yards of the station to Birmingham, which was only 3 stops away and has a free car park. I would not have known, however, when I booked, that it was so readily accessible by train from the centre Birmingham. I think they should advertise that feature. I was busy on a course, and it was bitterly cold out, so I did not visit any tourist sites as I had no free time until the morning I left, when I took a quick and easy trip to the town centre by train to see the famous Museum of Art.......which was closed for a refurb! Log fire was great, staff very friendly, dog friendly which was brilliant, Rupert our Labrador was very happy there. Lovely home made leek and potato soup and my husband had a lovely home made beef bourgeoisie which he said was gorgeous , beef just fell apart. Thank you chef.
