Sophisticated Victorian Spa Town
The elegant spa town of Harrogate has some of England’s finest Victorian architecture. Lush greenery and colourful flowers also add to the stately atmosphere.
The main attraction is the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in a 19th-century building which maintains its original Moorish interior design. Nearby is the Royal Pump Room Museum, set over Europe’s strongest sulphur well and detailing the town’s history.
One ongoing Harrogate institution is Bettys Tea Rooms which serves fabulous afternoon tea. Surrounded by the unique shops of the Montpellier Quarter, it overlooks gardens which continue south to meet The Stray – over 200 acres of parkland whose vibrant spring blossom is quite a sight. On the opposite side of town are the Grade II-listed Valley Gardens, whose bandstand hosts summer concerts. The gardens merge into a pine wood which neighbours the acclaimed RHS Harlow Carr Gardens.
Aside from its visual beauty, the town is also important for conferences. Harrogate International Centre is one of the UK’s top convention venues - just one of the reasons why the accommodation industry here is thriving.

Worth visiting Harrogate for a couple of nights. Lovely gardens and history. Ideal to stop weekend and go onto York. Theatre worth visiting. Loops around hard to get lost. Great places to eat and lovely town. Pump house museum interesting. Piano Italian delicious. Delightful roast dinner at William and Victoria. Fat Badger worth a visit for drinks. It’s also a transport hub to visit York, Ripon, Skipton etc Visit the gardens and walk through to Harlow Carr RHS gardens Visit the theatre and the numerous bars and restaurants The Cattleman’s is still going after over 35 years when we first ate there! Harrogate is a really lovely place to visit, lots of history, green spaces, cafe's and nightlife. I've been for the last 2 years for a long weekend and back again in 2026. Parliament Street area is great for nightlife, and also lots of great pubs and cafe's around that area too. Very friendly people all over and and great place to socialise. The Stray is a vast green space and Valley Gardens is stunning with amazing plants and the oldest and biggest Wisteria I've ever seen. Also, Harrogate is about 35-40 minutes on a train to York so I had a lovely afternoon sightseeing there too.Guest review bySWoolnoughUnited Kingdom

Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Very good location, a short walk to the centre of Harrogate. TV was good to have. Lovely big comfortable room and bathroom. Decent breakfast and the lift was an advantage. I must mention Francesca on Reception - nothing was too much trouble and she booked us a lovely room with walk-in shower as requested. The breakfast options were plentiful and the options were chose were delicious. We didn’t eat there of an evening, but I’m sure this would have also been delicious.
