We had a tiny but cosy room, spotlessly clean. Drinks and food (both dinner and breakfast) were excellent. The location is excellent, right on the market square, and parking overnight on the street nearby was free.

The staff were incredible and very helpful- very friendly too. The hotel itself was stunning- very cosy and beautiful. Like a fancy but historical vibe. The breakfast was amazing and we got to eat it in a beautiful dining room.

Stayed for two nights with two other couples. We were given a warm welcome on arrival and this carried on throughout our stay from all staff. The rooms were all individual with character and were clean and comfortable. Good selection of quality food which was presented well and was delicious. All three couples were delighted with our visit and we have already said we would return.

Its a very small town. It has nothing else except this unique local hotel. Most local people seem to work here or have an economic link to this place. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is an experience and unique. The dinner menu’s are a true delight. The kitchen chef is a master. We ate here for two nights because we were exited about the first diner. The local nature park is a true beauty. Go and see!

    Walled garden, just near town centre car parks is a must visit. Its priced at £10 but well worthi it. Lots of different rooms and new things being created. Lots of lovely places to eat, good variety new Spice restaurant , excellent, also the Italian. Important to book well ahead

    Love Helmsley, it's a gorgeous town with lots of character.

    Love Helmsley, it's a gorgeous town with lots of character. Lots of independent shops, all very helpful and friendly. The castle is worth a visit as is the walled garden. We did eat in the Black Swan as the food if very good. I did notice an Italian restaurant just off the square that we would have gone to if we had stayed another day.

    First time we have been to Helmsley, plenty of walks and cafes, restaurants, pubs etc to choose from, place is very clean and well kept, we stayed two nights could of easily stayed for another night, plenty of things to do to pass the time

    Helmsley has lots to offer The Castle, Walled Gardens, Duncombe Park, a town of nice shops and small cafes. So plenty to see and do. For Walkers Helmsley is excellent either through Duncombe Park or walking Rievaulx Abbey. A good Friday Market as well.

    We have been to Helmsley on many previous occasions. It is an exceptionally attractive little market town, with much to see (including a castle), an interesting range of shops, an excellent Italian restaurant (La Trattoria), and friendly peeople.

    A lovely town full of independent shops, restaurants & pubs.

    A lovely town full of independent shops, restaurants & pubs. We enjoyed the beer at the Helmsley brewery, meals at La Trattoria, the Feathers, The Royal Oak, the Indian amd fish & chips from the Deep Sea. We also used some of the small cafes for a light lunch. We visited the Birds of Prey centre at Dunscombe Park, and the Folk Museum at Hutton-Le-Hole. Both of these were very interseting & informative.

    Nice breakfast cooked to order we had dinner for our three night stay and were very happy with the menu although a little expensive for a bottle of wine. The room was comfortable, clean and perfectly adequate for a short stay. We enjoyed our time in Helmsley . Nice hotel pleasant staff in a lovely village with plenty to see and do locally.

    The location was stunning and the cottage was beautiful and exceptionally presented. Very typical local Yorkshire cottage and lovely and cool in the heatwave. Hosts were very pleasant and very helpful. Location was ideal for our needs to be with family in Helmsley and nearby attraction visits.
