We loved the little shops and pubs, the calmness of the Scilly Isles and the honesty of everything. Being in Hugh Town felt like going back in time to when shops didn't have to lock up expensive items and alcohol. Everyone in the shops was very pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. We would love to visit again.

Going off peak meant it was nice & quiet. Plenty to watch down at the quay & hotels & bars ooen wihout the queues. Very friendly community. Recommend the Mermaid Inn & Tregarthen's Hotel for food, also the Atlantic but a bit more basic. Star Castle the best though for atmosphere & food. Recommend the Island Tour from Holgate Green - amusing & interesting.

Pleasant small town with a good range of pubs and eating places. Reasonable but fairly limited range of shops. Easy access to quay side and boats to the other islands on the Isles of Scilly. Also terminus for the only bus service that circulates around St Marys Island.

We made the trip to go on the Pelagic Cruises and some sight-seeing in the Islea of Scilly generally. Plenty of eateries in Hugh Town - but pretty slow service - gave up on one when told 25mins to wait for lunch order. Didn't look round Hugh Town particularly as not interested in shopping/beach. Tourist Info pretty good.

Good spot but queuing all the time to get in the coop not good. Shame the Bishop and Wolf is closed. Butchers round the corner was much better! Local boats don’t seem to operate social distancing, packed solid! It’s a good spot to get anywhere on The Scillies. St. Marys has a lot to offer. Porth Hellick one of our favourites.

Our room was a superb base to explore the archipelago from, when we landed it was a short walk from the airport past fields full of the joys and flowers of spring, and was an easy walk into Hugh Town for food and boats to the other islands. Having full cooking facilities made life easier (and cheaper!), and we spent a lot of time happily sat by the front window enjoying the view. One of the most relaxing holidays I have been lucky enough to go on.

Unique historical hotel in the centre of the original Garrison battlements. Breakfast was good, dinners excellent with a choice of two restaurants. Bedroom was the guards room which was small but comfortable, stone with its own door accessed from the castle wide grassy battlements. Quite an experience.

Hotel positioned at the end of the quay... easy walk from the ferry... 1 minute to Hugh Town shops/pubs. Great terrace to sit with a beer looking out to sea and across to Tresco and Bryher. Good 'full Cornish' breakfast. Luggage delivered to the ferry on departure. Staff were great!

We liked everything, from the minute we walked in the hotel, everything, staff, food, cleanliness, atmosphere, they were brilliant. The staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Almost everything about it! Friendly, comfy, perfect location, nice food, appropriately quirky decor, animated but chilled hotel bar etc
