Kendal is a great location between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. It is large enough to have a lot of choices of restaurants, grocery and shopping options. The Castle is a lovely walk, it's beautiful, and has lots of walking paths and green spaces for dogs as well as people. Kendal is a beautiful and historic market town with lots of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. It's got a great library for rainy days and there's lots of fascinating old alleyways and buildings to enjoy. We loved eating at the Brewery Arts Centre in the evening and also the brilliant Comida Spanish tapas cafe just down from the arts centre. The location was quiet as it was hidden behind other buildings. There were two rooms per floor and three floors. The stairs were winding and narrow so not appropriate for seniors unless in good physical condition. I am over 75 and the stairs made me quite nervous. The kitchen was well equipped except I prefer perk or drip coffee. Folks from out of the UK may not understand the term 'cottage' as this is a three story building.Guest review byTeresa RCanada - 8.0

In fact, it was immediately adjacent to the river, so was quiet at night. Breakfast was a, mostly very, good buffet. We ate one evening meal, which was excellent; we both opted for rump steaks and they were some of the best we have eaten in quite some time. The room was spacious, had a lovely powerful shower, and was warm. Our room was dog friendly too which meant we could stay with our pooch. The staff was so friendly, the breakfast had plenty of choice, and we loved having a pub as part of the hotel so we could have dinner on-site.
