Well what can I say an absolute little jewel of a town.
Well what can I say an absolute little jewel of a town. Plenty to see from the town square and high street. Down to the river walks, The Lady Chapel, The Castle. River boats (but only till October) Mother Shipton's Cave. Got to mention the very quaint and beautiful railway station. It is quite hilly but with patience and care it can be got around we are in our late 60's and we managed. Watch out for the blue plaques on the historical buildings reading them is a real eye opener. Plenty of pubs to choose from but the Worlds End Pub has to be our favourite. The food there was very reasonably priced. Great place to visit on short stay.
Great place to visit on short stay. Mother Shiptons Cave was a disappointment though as we were expecting a cave you could walk in but this is definitely not the case though so bear that in mind as £15.00 per adult is expensive. We love it.

Within easy reach historic York to the east and Harrogate to the west with RHS Harlow Carr not forgetting Betty's. In a quiet village you can relax in the evening with excellent cuisine, can recommend the fish pie, at the hotel and a pint or 3 of local Theakston's best beer and no driving. The rooms are comfortable and cosy. A bonus for my partner and me is the hotel's dog-friendly policy. My dog, Poppy, is fussed over when she stays here; we love it too! The staff are friendly and go out of their way to help. The hotel is situated at a fantastic site with a handsome frontage. At Christmas, it is cosy, festive and welcoming. Great hosts and we really enjoyed Mao's Thai meal and the Aragon's fish and chips. A great location for busses to Harrogate and trains to York.
