The best feature of the hotel was the leisure centre. We only used the pool but it also had a gym, sauna and steam room. The food was very average. We ate from the bar menu after the first evening. Whilst we didn't spend a large amount of time in Loxton (it was too wet for long walks) it was very easy to get to Cheddar, Weston Super Mare and other local towns. Average and my room was decent. Others were not. Mine had recently been refurbished with new carpets and wallpaper but the rest of the hotel was in need of some major TLC. Horrible old dusty carpets throughout, tiny rooms in the other building with no light and generally old and worn. Definitely wouldn’t pay £120 a night to stay here again. The location of the hotel benefits from being high up with far reaching views over Somerset countryside. However, although the hotel is warm, homely and quiet inside, the nearby M5 motorway is really noisy - so sitting on the terrace outside the bar is not as pleasant as you might think. I loved the property - the overtones of an old stately house turned into a hotel. The pool is excellent with the sunlight streaming over it in the early evening. All the staff were super-friendly and helpful. I had a lovely drink and a meal in the bar and as a solo traveller it felt really laid back and I felt comfortable dining alone.
