The room was clean. The food was really good, all home made and inexpensive. The room was worth what we paid, comfortable, clean and a great location for walks. The breakfast was really lovely too. We will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful time here, celebrating the last day of our Honey Moon. The rooms are spotless and look fantastic, the pub is amazing and the staff are so kind and helpful. I really can't fault it and we will definitely be going back at some point soon. Also, its a great location to explore Dartmoor with nearby access to a particularly nice part of it. 5 stars!

Wendy and Peter are gracious and delightful hosts. Wendy provided fresh-baked treats with tea and coffee on arrival. I can’t say enough about the personal comforts and cozy touch of the room. Breakfast was fantastic and a great view of the rolling hills of West Devon.

An absolutely great place to stay for our long weekend in Dartmoor. We were met with a friendly welcome by the owners, and some yummy treats. Really well located, there was so much to do very close by. The views were stunning, both inside and out - we loved having a coffee or a beer on the terrace, overlooking beautiful gardens and Yes Tor, which were also framed in the living room and bedroom windows. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was well-equipped. All in all a fantastic place to stay.

We visited Lydford specifically for the gorge.

We visited Lydford specifically for the gorge. The Whitelady waterfall was lovely but a very long steep trek for just one waterfall. The Devils Cauldren was the highlight. A shorter, but more tricky, walk. Amazing sheer sides with a roaring river in the bottom. Steps clinging to the sheer sides with just a single hand rail to hang on to. No dogs or children allowed in the more hazardous bits. I was alternately amazed and terrified.

On our first morning we visited the famous gorge. Even using a cane it was manageable, and well worth the effort to see and hear the Cauldron and then visit the White Lady waterfall. The moor is virtually on the doorstep which ever way one travels, and is a perfect place for walking and exploring. The are has a variety of pubs, all supplying food.

Lydford is a small village just off the A386 to the west of Dartmoor and south of Okehampton. Probably most famous for the Lydford gorge but the village itself has other attraction including Lydford Castle which is actually an old courthouse and prison and mounds from the Saxon town. There is also an ancient spring and numerous footpaths. It has a traditional village pub and there is a nearby farm shop. From the village it's possible to see and easily reach the moor with its Tors and ancient settlements, stone rows etc:

Lydford Gorge is a wonderful walk,(National Trust) challenging for some, in parts, with narrow slippery paths, hand rails provided where necessary. Not difficult, but care must be taken at all times when near the river. The Castle Inn very good food and service.

Lydford and the surrounding areas have much to offer those who have never been before and those like myself who have either been before or worked in the area. Churchyards with interesting churchyards, monuments, Lydford Gorge. The space of Dartmoor for peaceful thoughts. Life is far too busy these days, lose yourself within this part of the country. You will return home feeling refreshed from visiting here...and have the need of a return.

The place was beautiful, and well worth going. The waterfall itself is huge and the walk around the trust is easy going and relaxing. Well worth going to the bird hide if you've got the time too :)

The cottage was perfect for our 3 night stay over Christmas with our dog. The hosts left some lovely welcoming gifts for Christmas, which was a nice touch. The cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything that we needed. Loved the log burner - it kicked out the heat really quickly. The location was great, just down the road from Lydford Gorge. Would definitely recommend a meal at the Dartmoor Inn.

Lydford house is so much better than a chain hotel. The hotel is family owned, and we were dealt with throughout by the owner. The service could not be faulted, and I have no hesitation in recommendiing this establishment to other couples. A small hotel of very high quality!

Clean, good size room. Restaurant portions were a good size and food was well cooked. Hotel was dog friendly in most areas and there was a convenient countryside walk at the back of the hotel.
