Lyme Regis is extremely picturesque.
Lyme Regis is extremely picturesque. Coming from London we revelled in the stress-free environment. Plenty of places to eat on and near the seafront. The location is hilly and for older people like us, a car is necessary. Bearing in mind the hills, the local authority has done very well in its provision of car parks near the seafront. Lyme Regis is an enjoyable place to visit in itself but is also near numerous other resorts and attractions. Lyme is a lovely town, with lots of places to visit in town and the surrounding area. There are lots of places to eat, but some weren't open on Mondays and Tuesdays and even out of season they were busy, so you might want to book before you go. Lyme Regis is a typical old British sea side village. Individual shops, eateries but also a few chain stores. Charming and friendly. Not for youngsters looking for drinking partying holidays. I spent most of my childhood in Dorset and know the seaside towns well. Lyme Regis is great for all ages, there are restaurants, a good beach, boat trips, fishing trips, a museum, interesting shops and the Town Mill area to explore. The town has supermarkets, chemists, clothes, book stores too. There are also guided walks and fossil hunting to do. You can walk to the end of the Cobb, on top or beside it and get amazing views of the coast and town. There are backwaters to go along too as well as taking in the views from Langmoor Gardens. It was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed and more. Only a short easy walk along the river into Lyme Regis. David and Angela were welcoming friendly and thoughtful. They went out of their way to give us a lift to and from the Alexandra Hotel for our Afternoon Tea which was very kind of them.
