We always enjoy Matlock and visit approx twice per year. Nice walks, very good fish and chips. Aquarium well worth a visit. Would like to go on cable car but have to buy a ticket to include all other attractions at the top. it is a small town with character and charm with a great selection of independent bars and restaurants and pubs , where you can eat drink and be merry. We had an amazing three night stay - the weather was 30degC and more every single day. The staff at the hotel were absolutely spot on - really helpful, very friendly and happy to chat. The pool is amazing and it was great to see how popular it is. Great walking routes from the hotel as well and a good bus service - we dined in Matlock one night. Quite handy for Donington Park too. I like the shops in Matlock, especially The Victorian Emporium. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants & bars as well. I travel down from Scotland when my friend is playing guitar & singing at Folk Festivals in the Derbyshire area. I eat at various restaurants, to try them out. I like to find out which one suits me best. There are always good music venues in the Derbyshire area, & plenty of choice. The only disappointment was a bus that didn't arrive on the time stated, & my train to Matlock was cancelled from Derby Railway Station. I had to wait for a replacement bus, for over an hour & a half. It didn't arrive at all, but they put a taxi to Matlock on for me, & I got to my hotel at 1.00 on Sunday morning ! I come down on the train around 3 times a year. ( I didn't bring my camera, so I have no photographs to add.) I haven't had time to try any local attractions, like the ones mentioned below. I was too busy visiting the music festivals which were fantastic !Guest review byCoulter
