Located along the north coast, it’s a great spot for exploring. There’s a very personal touch with this hotel, and we were made to feel very welcome. The breakfast was cooked to perfection, as was the evening meal. We sat in the lounge in front of the fire in the afternoon and enjoyed the ambiance of a very tastefully decorated room. Thanks for such a lovely stay.

We loved our brief stay at Burnside cottage. Close to the ferry at Gills Bay for the next morning. Kacey was so welcoming & the food amongst the best we sampled throughout our stay in Scotland! Even when my daughter left her favourite toy behind, Kacey posted it on to us! Thoughtful & great customer service.

    The proprietors Euan & Emma were excellent company and very attentive to guests' needs. The hotel had an excellent menu with accompanying wines, beers, spirits, if required. The hotel also had an extensive range of locally-produced spirits. The accommodation was excellent and well-equipped. The only down-side was the lack of TV reception - although being without TV was somewhat of a blessing!

    The Hawthorns B & B in Mey (a few miles west of John O’ Groats) is a wonderful base to explore the most northerly tip of the UK mainland. Graeme and Eileen are the perfect hosts, greeting us with warmth and professionalism, and providing local information that made our stay all the more memorable. Our bedroom and en suite were immaculate, and the breakfasts offered (both continental and full Scottish) were delicious. Thank you so much Graeme and Eileen for a wonderful stay in Mey.     This place is a little gem. If you want a spiritual retreat full of candles and incense in a quiet location, then this is for you. With no Wi-Fi, this is a place to come and escape. And not one touristy picture of a Highland cow to be seen - what a joy! The owner Fred, is a breath of fresh air. Loved the spacious rooms and very comfy king size bed. The property is just across the road from the footpath to Loch Mey with its bird hide. Great for birdwatchers.

    Excellent hosts. Everything provided for a more than comfortable stay, they provided everything you required for a stress free visit to the area. Location was close to a hotel which served beautiful meals and breakfast in the bnb was more than adequate. Truly a dog friendly place to stay everything was provided for their comfort also with two lovely dogs on site. Would not hesitate to rebook if in the area again.

    All meals in the hotel were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and very happy to deal with requests and queries. The room was small but we had a bathroom with shower facility (better for us than a bath these days!) and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. I would certainly stay there again.
