Minehead has a holiday feel, probably due to Butlins and...
Minehead has a holiday feel, probably due to Butlins and people looking for something to do other than stay in there. The town is small, the bus service good. The Shops are all there, and banks too. Cafes abound. The steam train trip is expensive. The Dunster castle is better suited to a car visit because the walk up from the bus stop is hard. The nearby village of Watchet is ok for a visit, got a very reasonable cafe and a pleasant walk on the harbour. NOTE- if you go by coach to get to butlins, be prepared for a very cosy trip on the bus!! It was a shock to find that the Nat Exp coach took us to Taunton, then we had to get the bus 28 ( all included in the ticket) from there to butlins. We liked easy walks along the promenade and to the harbour.
We liked easy walks along the promenade and to the harbour. Shops in the Avenue were interesting and convenient. Pub meals not good but Fish and Chips good and we liked the Wheelhouse Restaurant. Had to book for next evening. Visited Dunster and Porlock which were picturesque villages but difficult to park and get around easily. Dunster Castle too expensive. Main road to Minehead from M5 narrow, winding and busy - quite dangerous. Took bus to Porlock.Guest review byWallace - 10.0

Minehead with a small picturesque harbour set on the Bristol channel. Always makes me smile when driving down the sea walled road out of town. Bustling town. Nice individual shops. Sandy beach. Near to quirky small villages and exmoor. Steam train alights in the town which is ideal. Plenty of choice for drinks and meals and snacks. We preferred nearby Dunster: Minehead was traffic congested, but it was school holiday time. Dunster Castle tour was a highlight. We ate at two of the nearby local pubs, and on one evening had dinner in the dining room at The Luttrell Arms hotel in Dunster.Guest review byLilley - 6.0
The shopping is hit and miss.
The shopping is hit and miss. Some shops are open whilst others only open a few days a week. Being that it was the height of the season you would expect to find the tea shops and antique shops open, but alas, no. The shopkeepers are letting down the landlords and hoteliers who work hard to attract visitors - such a shame. Just a few steps away from the beach, dog friendly at this time of year, the sunrises across the bay were some of the very best I have ever seen. A short walk through the park to the town. Facilities excellent, loved the swimming pool, food was also also excellent, pubs and restaurants within a short distance, although we ate at the hotel for breakfast and dinner, the dogs were spoiled rotten too. Unfortunately, the room was sub-standard :- Dark with tiny window looking out onto masses of unattractive yards; Dowdy furnishings and not particularly clean.
