It is a small town but a great point for visiting the Mourne mountains and beaches. Some individual gift and clothes boutiques. Good choice of restaurants and cafes. We also drove to Banbridge for the cinema at the outlet stores I go for the peace and quiet in September as not so many holiday makers then.

Newcastle is a well-balanced destination: part lively seaside town, part peaceful retreat. Ideal for families, couples, and solo travellers who want to enjoy the best of Northern Ireland’s natural beauty.” ✨ Overall: Newcastle, Co. Down, is not just a holiday spot — it’s a place where you can pause, restore your spirit, and feel held by both mountain and sea. It’s perfect for families, couples, walkers, and anyone who craves a blend of wild beauty and cosy seaside charm. I had a fantastic weekend. We had a beautiful meal in Quinn’s quick service and also Great Jones the Ribeye steak was delicious. Easy access to all amenities.

I have been visiting Newcastle all my life and find the streets dirty now and not well kept and public bins overflowing with rubbish . Too many cars and too much noise. No decent shops her anymore .Joy riders screaming up and down the Main Street keeping people awake at night . Such a shame, not the Newcastle seaside resort I remember from my childhood days . The rest of the area around the mountains and across Northern Ireland is beautiful , stunning scenery , great roads and very friendly welcoming people as ever . In contrast the property was back from the seafront by a few streets and very pretty , well kept and ideal for our four day stay

The Avoca Hotel was ideally placed on the Newcastle sea front, with the room we stayed in looking newly decorated with enough space for me and my partner. The breakfast options were excellent with vegetarian options and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The reception team exceeded expectations by allowing us to have an additional half an hour after check out to get organised. Overall, a lovely stay.

The central location of this hotel was perfect for our one night stay. My parents had a caravan in Newcastle when I was a child and this was a trip down memory lane. I left my phone in a near by bar and the staff could not have been any more helpful and I thankfully got my phone back. Some great pictures on there
