FAQs about hotels in Norwich

A Centre of Commerce Through The Ages

Once an important medieval trading centre, Norwich remains a popular shopping destination. The Chapelfield centre is the newest addition, whereas a historic shop sells the city’s most famous export: Colman’s Mustard. Castle Mall is underground, in a hill topped with a keep, part of the 12th-century castle founded by William the Conqueror.

Dating to the same era is the large cobbled square housing a 6-day market. It was said that Norwich had a church for every week, and while that is no longer true, over 30 medieval churches still exist. The cathedral was built using stone from Normandy and boasts England’s 2nd largest cloisters and 2nd tallest spire.

Colourful medieval façades line Elm Hill and the Guildhall is another fine example of the period. Half-timbered Dragon Hall was a trading hall, while St Andrew’s and Blackfriars Halls constitute England’s most intact friary. The 14th-century Cow Tower sits by the River Wensum upstream from Pulls Ferry, the train station and Norwich City FC.

Reportedly, Norwich once had a pub for every day, and today’s traditional inns and modern bars are certainly popular with the student population. Other entertainment options include the Theatre Royal and Playhouse.

Norwich accommodation on Booking.com includes historic hotels with pools, city centre guest houses and riverside apartments, all near to Norwich Airport.

As I was primarily visiting friends, I didn't have time to visit some of the places of interest or revisit the cathedral. I made a note of places and would very much like to return. I spent more time walking through the city, including with friends and discovered a number of interesting passages and alleyways, including a walk way along the river. The weather was great for walking while I was there a couple of nights.

    Norwich is my hometown.

Norwich is my hometown. It's perfect for shopping and eating with lots of independent cafes, restaurants and shops as well as the chains. I know that there is lots of history and culture but it's not my thing, I suffer from chronic gallery fatigue. But it's there, go find it. Cathedral, castle, museums and theatres just for starters. If you ask me, the cathedral is the most beautiful in the UK. All those others are much over rated. Norwich is a beautiful city, I like wandering around and watching the world go by. Perfect for a long weekend. Norwich is well placed for exploring Norfolk. Lots to do and nice places to do it. Flat as a pancake so I don't recommend it for hiking. So plenty for a week or so. The broads are very mellow. Go boating, it's very chill.

I loved all the history of the City the many walks around it and learning such a lot as i went. The food on the Market tasty also the quaint cafes esp Elm Street corner one. `Head in the clouds `shop brilliant, full of colour and brilliant, warm staff. Norwich is indeed a fine city and i am proud to be a local. Enter the many Churches and Cathedral and if you need information there is always someone to assist also leaflets. The Forum is good to enter as often something going on, craft fairs, book sale, xmas things. Also Pizza above it, tasty.

There is so much to see and do in Norwich, I would recommend a 'treasure hunt' as you get to see more of Norwich. The castle and the cathedral were worth a visit and there are plenty of pubs and places to eat.

Friendly and clean city the Park and Ride easy to use and the electric busses were good plus bus drivers were also very helpful. The refurbished Castle was exceptional and it happened to be a Heritage day on this particular Saturday which allowed free entry but we would happily have paid to visit. Castle WIFi was hit and miss so had to pay by cash in the Castle gift shop. Next day Sunday revisited Wroxham and did some more shopping. Before heading for home drove through the countryside and came across Hoveton Gardens which we visited and bought something to eat in the quirky cafe.

Norwich is a great place to stay!

Norwich is a great place to stay! There is a variety of things to do, lots of history, walking the old town and exploring the churches. It’s got a great mix of old and new, the shopping is great with high street names as well as many independent shops. Norwich has a great selection of places to eat and wonderful coffee shops.

I was visiting Norwich to attend a family wedding. Excellent location - only a 20min walk into the city centre. On a regular bus route in case your legs won't carry you back! Very good accommodation. Has everything that you may need. Reasonably priced. Lovely toiletries. Lovely food available and again reasonable prices. Staff all very welcoming, accommodating and attentive.

The hotel was in an ideal location . We travelled up by train and it was a 5 minute walk if that , from the station . Lovely walks along the river to Riverside where there were bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. Easy walk to city centre and cathedral . Also retail park is a stones throw from the hotel too . Lovely friendly reception staff at check in .

The room itself was one of the nicest (cheap) hotel rooms I've stayed in - thought had clearly been given to furnishings and it had everything we needed. If I want accomodation again in Norwich I would certainly make a return visit, which isn't something I often think about hotels at the cheaper end
