With several heritage railways in close proximity and access by train, Porthmadog should be a must on any Train enthusiast ‘List of places to go’. My son has been talking about the FFestiniog railway (Rheilffyrdd FFestiniog ac Eryri) for many years. We were finally able to make the trek and we were excited to see it all. We could have spent 3-4 days going on the different excursions. Plan on getting into the Boston Lodge railway works for a tour there also.Guest review byJohn - 10.0

A charming place to visit.
A charming place to visit. The views, scenery, local people, heritage railways, harbour, easy transport access and access to amenities, shops, restaurants and shops, walks along the cob, with views of Snowdon. The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, has an excellent museum and local staff have an excellent knowledge of the history of the area, the slate mining and heritage railways. Great for families. The scenery along the routes on the Welsh Highland Railway is spectacular. (This is separate to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway). Suitable for families. The views along the cob, estuary and harbour are scenic and the views of Snowdon and surrounding region are very scenic. Portmeirion and the David Lloyd George Museum and his childhood home are easy to reach by car or public transport. There is a harbour museum and a number of other attractions within the region. The food at Marina La Cucina was freshly cooked and very good food. The restaurants get busy during the height of season, so we would recommend booking earlier in the day for a table.Guest review byRJUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Located on the High Street but shops close around 4 or 5 pm apart the nearby Tesco. All appliances are available. A lot of steps so not very practical for people with mobility difficulties.
