This is a lovely and picturesque town in the incomparably lovely Yorkshire dales. There is a lovely market square with nice shops and restaurants, a fabulous Georgean theatre, a terrific castle to explore, and a nearby ruined abby that is an easy walk from the centre of town. (Every town needs a ruined abbey, right?)

Like every other town could do with a bit of a facelift and money into it. Not much to do but nice peaceful and could do with a good Chinese as our takeaway was awful!! Cobbles all over were awful and some areas cars were driving over loose rocks and god knows what damage to the undercarriage to their cars . Very long drive for only two nights don’t think we’ll ever be back

Richmond is a lovely small town on a hill.

Richmond is a lovely small town on a hill. There is a large cobbled market square. Quaint streets lead off from it. The indoor market has lots of good stalls. The castle is behind this and well worth a visit. The Georgian Theatre is well worth a visit. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants. The Railway Station has a cinema, a café, small shops and an exhibition area. There is a well marked circular walk of about three miles to Earby Abbey. Entrance is free. Earby Church , next to it, has a collection of amazing Medieval wall frescos. Paddling in the river at the bottom of Mill Road is popular. The town has steep roads. The parking can be a problem with generally limited times.

Compact Market town with a number of good shops and restaurants - we would recommend the Rustique on Chantry Wynd (just off the Marketplace). This is reached from an entrance to one side of the Post Office and creates a Parisian street scene with near authentic French cooking. The Castle is a must see albeit the climb to the top of the tower is a little daunting particularly the long staircase in the middle section of the Castle. Because of time constraints we did not visit Richmond Falls but if you have the time I believe it to be worthwhile.

Only stayed one night but really enjoyed ourselves. I was surprised how quiet it was in early August. Very picturesque. We stayed at The Buck inn and ate lunch at the King's Head. I recommend both.

Lots of bars and restaurants. Lots of banks to negotiate if you want to go to the river etc but worth it. Some lovely guided walks available but if you prefer, there are some walks on the internet to download yourself. I’d recommend the Drummer Boy walk .

The hotel was lovely and the staff very nice. Found the advice from staff about parking outside the hotel a bit confusing. The staff need to emphasise that parking was only for two hours. We got a parking ticket as we understood that we could park for free after putting the disc {which we assumed belonged to the hotel and not issued to everyone staying in Richmond} in the windscreen. More clarification for visitors please.

A fine old inn, reasonably priced, in an ideal location for exploring the ancient town of Richmond and surrounding area. A good for an overnight break if travelling along the A1. Our bedroom had a view of Richmond Castle. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Good selection of local ales with Yorkshire hospitality. A generous breakfast was included. Also provided a parking permit for the duration of our stay.

Exceptionally well planned and maintained property, combining modern comfort with traditional features. Real fire fireplace with supply of wood, real wooden floors. The view toward Yorkshire landscape is a big bonus. Combine all this with an amazing garden and very welcoming hosts - and you have probably the best place to stay for a visit to Yorkshire dales, City of York and all the castles and abbeys around!

The cottage is perfectly located for exploring Richmond on foot. It's a great gateway to driving out into the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The cottage is cosy and had all the amenities we required. It was nice to keep warm during the cold and damp nights. There was plenty of room and storage in the bedrooms. Water pressure was great. The beds were comfy and clean. It was a pleasure to wake up here.
