We thought the village of St Margarets Hope was the prettiest of all the villages on Orkney; there is a lovely bay and harbour with two old fashioned inns in which to stay or eat. It's right at the bottom of Orkney mainland but, with a car, everywhere is accessible. It's walking distance from the Pentland ferry connecting Orkney to the Scottish mainland. There are decent facilities with a shop and a pub. It's just a really nice place that feels safe. The houses and the streets had Christmas trees and lights up to make it feel really festive.
