Other than the magnificent abbey there are few obvious sites in Selby and it seemed to have few attractive places to eat. It is a pleasant town to walk around and there are good views from the bridge over the River Ouse. Selby is a nice town with a mix of amenities, there are historical places to visit and they have a gym, bowling and a canal which is very nice to walk beside. Had great tapas at Basco’s, and the next morning a wonderful breakfast at the Barco Lounge so even though the Bay Horse didn’t offer breakfast there is plenty of choice of excellent eateries within walking distance. Dog friendly too at the Barco Lounge, not sure about Bascos. Train station is only a 5 minute walk from the Bay Horse plus cheap car parking outside the pub. I could reach to hang up my clothes and be independent. I was impressed the hotel rang to check my needs beforehand. There would have been room for additional aids had I needed them. Lots of different hand grabs and rails in bathroom. I had plenty of width for 18in seat active wheelchair in doorways. Carpet was closely fitted and did not impede my rolling.
