We’d come for the Firework Festival before and it was sad to see quite a few boarded shops and pubs that had been open on previous occasions The pier being closed is a great disappointment But Wheatherspoons is still amazing value for food and drinks👌 The Lakeside is lovely and the Marina Plus right by the Waterfront Hotel the little area where they usually have a singer at this time of year was a disappointment also as it wasn’t on Saturday 27th and closed before 6pm on 28th I would only come when the Firework Festival is on.Guest review byTomUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I can't tell you much as I was using Southport as a base to visit Nature Reserves in the area. The holiday season was over but it was still quite busy. There area has a diverse selection of Pubs, Restaurants, Cafe's, Shops etc., to cater for all tastes and budgets. "Lord Street is the main shopping street of Southport, in Merseyside. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) long, with a roundabout marking each end of the street. There are many water features, gardens and architectural buildings along the entire street, with a mix of residential, commercial and public buildings. It was laid out in the early 19th century". Visited from 2010 to 2019 and had wonderful holidays. Sadly Southport is looking tired. Lord Street used to be lovely but it's now mainly charity shops or empty shops. Homeless sleeping in doorways. The promenade and gardens are lovely. Excellent play area for kids. The pier has been closed for a while and when we were there we heard there had been a fire the day before. It's not particularly dog friendly. Windmill pub does good pub food. There are two retail parks with the usual shops but that takes you away from the main area of Lord Street. Southport has some of the most fantastic Victorian buildings...
Southport has some of the most fantastic Victorian buildings of anywhere I've been in England. Anyone interested in architecture, it's a must. As with all these places some parts are a bit tired, but you can imagine what it once would have been. There's some nice Bars up the top end of Lord Street, which is the main broad Avenue, with an exceptional Korean restaurant, The Korean Kitchen - absolutely fantastic. Southport is a lovely place to visit . We really enjoyed our stroll along Lord street and it was a nice atmosphere with lots of cafes, bars , and people enjoying food and drinks outside, Large selection of places to eat Chinese , Indian , mexican good old fish and chips , and we found a beautiful place that did the most amazing afternoon tea. This is no longer the case but I still like the feeling of staying in these kind of hotels. The bathroom had been recently refitted and the shower was excellent.
