Nestled amongst the mountains with paths and tracks leading all over what’s not to like? Sadly, the general facilities here have gone. No shop for example. One place did have a sign out for coffee, but there could be an opportunity here for someone. Worth climbing up the Cateran Trail heading south to get stunning views looking down on the village. Also visit the stone circle, old bridge and the church. Just soak up the atmosphere!

Cannot fault the scenery but you must be a keen hiker or golfer to spend time here. You are miles from anywhere and only one main road, the A93, which is awful. Days out mean a challenging drive on roads with steep climbs, sharp bends and constant gear changes. This can be tiring and a little frightening at night. Three nights was one too many here.

The owners is what I liked most. Helen and Tim were so so helpful. The heating and drying room I also liked. The kitchen was very well stocked and clean. Beds comfortable and cosy. Lounge comfortable and warm.

Beautiful peaceful setting, some lovely period features and very friendly staff, but needs a bit of work done on it. We had moveable heaters in our room, but still little chilly. Bathrooms could be doing with upgrade.

A great area for walkers or hikers & bird watchers & if you like peace & quiet. The Wifi was not great where stayed. In these modern times most people need Wifi to keep in touch with family & friends. Ballater is a nice place to visit & some good walks & well sign posted. Nice cafes & shops there too. You need a car together there. Dunked is also a pretty place e to visit. .

We felt some trepidation prior to our stay due to the mixed reviews online, but our fears proved to be unfounded as our stay was an enjoyable one overall. Like some reviewers pointed out, the hotel's facilities show signs of aging/wear and tear and could do certainly with some refurbishment, but we loved the beautiful, serene and remote location of the hotel within a sprawling estate with gorgeous views. Overall, we enjoyed the scenic views, the unique experience of staying in a historic property and the rustic charm of the hotel.

Just back for a few days away, at glenshee glamping with the kids. The camp site is lovely and great for family. The kid loved that there were farm animals on site they could walk around and pet and a park for them to play in. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Shower blocks where very clean and warm We stayed in the bell tent that was very spacious and comfortable beds. The kids and I had a great few days away and definitely will be back

Great hotel and the staff are brilliant. I like the food but if I’m honest I would like more comfort food on the menu. Give me a pie or fish n chips. After a long day hiking or driving then having that option would be awesome. Dalmunziei has the estate with great produce and locally sourced ingredients. Love the lounge! Needs an equally great Whisky bar 😉 - willl be back next year!

2 shared snug rooms were cosy and had musical instruments. shared kitchen with appliances and juice. No access to pubs or place to eat until you wish to walk 2 miles road to another hotel.
